I Saw A Videogame 1

Happy new year! I have some other posts getting ready in the vault, but this is the most completed one, so it's coming out first.
I read game website 'Electron Dance' sometimes, and Joel on there has a short and regular article called 'Crashbook', where he jots down games he has not played. Often upcoming, but not strictly - it was previously known as the simply titled 'Caught My Eye'. There are a lot of games I also haven't played. More every day, even! I think it'll be nice to put them somewhere that isn't a formal backlog.

1: Mohrta

Mohrta Steam

Mohrta is a nonlinear FPS adventure through the strange and otherworldly. Explore a vast selection of unique environments, slay an enormous cast of bizarre creatures, and upgrade your arsenal of multifaceted weapons.

Vomitoreum dev does Demon's Souls, Morrowind via GZDoom. I'm crazy about the character designs.

2: Million Depth

Million Depth

Steam

Craft original weapons and engage in strategic time-freezing battles as you dive into the million-floor deep underground world of this deep-diving action strategy game.

Turn-based timeloop roguelite with a gun-building mechanic that looks somewhere between Kingdom Hearts's Gummi ships and Resonance of Fate. It looks like the kind of sickos thing you could spend ten thousand hours with, and I already have one of those on my plate.

Cyber Space Biotope / PLAYISM / 12th November 2025

3: Extreme Evolution: Drive to Divinity

Extreme Evolution Steam

Evolution concludes in this expressive platformer. Movement is your power, transformation is your gift. Discover sites and evolve as you explore an organic underworld open-world, Earth looming in the distance...

Tarason called this 'biblically accurate Monkey Ball(?)'. The Slave of God physics platformer nobody asked for?? I think it was nominated for/won some of IGF last year? I found myself thinking about it again recently. This is what the Net Yaroze should have made.

4: Automaton Lung

Automaton Lung Steam

Make use of your special abilities to skate, shoot, and fly through over 40 unique locations. In a strange land with almost no information you must be resourceful and clever. Question everything you see and trust nothing you hear.

Writing about #3 above suddenly reminded me of this, one of the very last 3DS games. Rescued on Steam, but I want to play it on original hardware... Vincent's working on an RPG sequel which pleasingly promises 'detailed organ management'.

5: Alabaster Dawn

Alabaster Dawn Steam

Break Nyx’s curse and guide humanity's rebirth in this top-down 2.5D Action RPG from the creators of CrossCode. Battle enemies with stylish combos, wield multiple divine weapons, solve intriguing puzzles and explore a changing world.

Crosscode devs making an RPG with a combat system inspired by Devil May Cry and Kingdom Hearts, with a perspective reminding me of Napishtim-engine Ys games. I'm a bit concerned about how granular the playstyle building is though, looks like it's leaning a bit roguelike (derogatory) compared to what I come to those inspirations for.

Radical Fish Games / Unreleased

6: Rodem The Wild

Vector (I have no idea why this is still up)

Poor Rodem is having the worst day of his life. Abandoned by his owner in Hyakujiri Park, his comfortable home life has been ripped away. All that’s left is learning to survive on his own. The player helps avoid dangerous humans, or befriend them; fight other dogs for dominance, or form little packs; scavenge for food, or starve. (source: Indie Tsushin )

'surrealist stray dog sandbox simulator, trying to stay alive and fend off against foes and nature elements. It's like Love-De-Lic but even more out there.' - bsky . Pac-Man 2-type Tokyo Jungle? Honestly, just look at it.

7: Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter

(no link. PS2 game)

Breath of Fire: Dragon Quarter[a] is a 2002 role-playing game by Capcom for the PlayStation 2. It is the fifth entry in the Breath of Fire series.

I like BoF2*. I like weird PS2 experiments. It's not strictly a roguelike, but it's adjacent, with an odd method of story delivery based on restarting the game - dense and strange and cruel.

*look,

8: Resident Evil: Outbreak

(no link. PS2 game)

Resident Evil Outbreak[a] is a survival horror video game developed and published by Capcom for the PlayStation 2. It was released on December 11, 2003 in Japan, on March 30, 2004 in North America, and on September 17, 2004 in PAL regions.[4] It was the first entry in the Resident Evil video game series to feature cooperative gameplay and online multiplayer support,[5][6][7] although online support was not available for the PAL versions of the game.

I'm going through it, okay. There's fan servers for this, so it's playable again. If my brain continues on this path...
